Challenges are open to all individuals 18 years of age or older at the time of entry.

Sanofi US has announced Connect & Coachâ„¢ as the winner of the 2013 Data Design Diabetes Innovation Challenge – Prove It! Connect & Coachâ„¢ is the first hybrid clinical and consumer application for Registered Dietitians and Certified Diabetes Educators to help educate the diabetes community.

    CFO, WellDoc

    Jon is the CFO of WellDoc®, a company blazing an mHealth path to enhanced patient outcomes through its pioneering FDA cleared solutions and world-class partnerships. Jon has been a venture capitalist with his own fund (Atelier), a large European fund (Syntek Capital) and a London-based individual (former owner of Harrods). Jon has evaluated hundreds of business plans from start-ups to $100M+ in revenue, invested $100M+, raised billions of dollars in the public and private markets and even helped restructure the debt of a sovereign country.

    In between, Jon has had operating roles in the healthcare industry (Wright Medical), automobile industry (JM Family) and retail industry (Harrods). Jon is a founding member of Start It Up Delaware, which aims to be the catalyst for creating a vibrant startup community in Delaware and surrounding communities.

    Jon holds degrees from The Pennsylvania State University and Duke University. Jon is the proud father of a type 1 diabetic child.

    Deborah Estrin
    Co-Founder, Open mHealth

    Deborah Estrin is a Professor of Computer Science at the new Cornell Tech campus in New York City and a Professor of Public Health at Weill Cornell Medical College. She is co-founder of the non-profit startup, Open mHealth. She was previously on faculty at UCLA and Founding Director of the NSF Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (CENS).

    Estrin is a pioneer in networked sensing, which uses mobile and wireless systems to collect and analyze real time data about the physical world and the people who occupy it. Estrin’s current focus is on mobile health (mhealth), leveraging the programmability, proximity, and pervasiveness of mobile devices and the cloud for health management.

    She is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.

    Bob Kocher, MD
    Partner, Venrock

    Bob Kocher is a Partner at Venrock and focuses on healthcare IT and services investments. He currently serves on the Board of Castlight Health, and is also Co-Chair of the Health Data initiative, a joint effort of HHS and the Institute of Medicine, to release healthcare data to spur private sector innovation to improve healthcare cost and quality.

    Prior to Venrock, Bob served in the Obama Administration as Special Assistant to the President for Healthcare and Economic Policy on the National Economic Council. Bob was one of the shapers of the healthcare reform legislation focusing on cost, quality, and delivery system reform and health IT meaningful use policy. Prior to the White House, he was a Partner at McKinsey & Company where he led McKinsey Global Institute’s healthcare economics work and Center for U.S. Health Reform.

    Jane Sarasohn-Kahn is a health economist and management consultant who works with healthcare stakeholders in the US and Europe. Jane’s client base spans the broad range of stakeholders in health, including technology, bio/life sciences, providers, payers, consumer goods, food, public sector and non-profits. Jane focuses at the nexus of healthcare and technology, applying the tools of environmental analysis, scenario and strategic planning, forecasting, and health policy analysis.

    Jane also writes the Health Populi blog. She sits on the advisory boards of the American Tax & Financial Center from Intuit, U.S. Health Efficiency Index project, the Health 2.0 conference, among other organizations. Jane is a frequent collaborator with the California HealthCare Foundation and sits on the HIMSS eConnecting with Consumers Task Force. Jane holds an MA (Economics) and MHSA (Health Policy) from the University of Michigan.

    VP, U.S. Diabetes Patient Centered Unit, Sanofi US

    Dennis Urbaniak is Vice President and Head of the U.S. Diabetes Patient Centered Unit for Sanofi US, an integrated platform consisting of diabetes products, devices and services. He also serves as a member of the leadership team for the Sanofi global diabetes division. Prior to this role, he held positions such as Vice President of Innovation and New Customer Channels and Vice President, Lovenox® marketing in the U.S. Dennis joined Sanofi US in 1994 and has held various positions within marketing, sales operations, sales management, and sales.

    Dennis also serves as a member of the Monmouth University School of Science Advisory Council, the chairman of the executive council for the Center for Healthcare Innovation, (CHI), a senior fellow for the Jefferson School of Public Health, a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Telecommunications and E Commerce committee, and a member of the Med Ad News editorial board.
